With spring making it's arrival here in North Carolina, we are taking the time to look back at one of our most enjoyable weddings of 2018. It was our last wedding of the year and what a wonderful way to close out the season! Steve and Rebecca are two of the kindest people you'll ever meet. My partner, Terry, and I really enjoyed working with them - and their families and friends were all wonderful. They chose to have their wedding around the holidays, bringing more of the people they truly love together. However I would say that their natural, organic, and elegant style was all their own. The wedding party all got to choose what they wanted to wear & I just love this! The men's gold ties were the only thing that was the same.
The day itself turned out to be beautiful and unseasonably mild for December. We agreed to meet across the street from their venue for wedding party and family photos before the wedding at The Carolina Theatre. Because the weather was so nice, we were able to do all of the photographs outside and because we planned ahead, we did them all before the ceremony.
Steve and his groomsmen first arrived in front of the Carolina Theatre and then Rebecca's Dad. Rebecca, her bridesmaids, mother, and aunt all walked together from the hotel. We hid Steve away for the time being and had her dad turn his back, as these two did a first look. Walking up to her dad, Rebecca tapped him on his shoulder and he turned around. And wow what a sweet moment! I love it when brides do a first look with their dads too. There's something special about this.
After a few photographs with Rebecca & her family, it was Steve's turn to see his stunning bride. We had him do the same by having his back turned and Rebecca tapping him on the shoulder. It was one of those wow moments! Then the sweetest moment of all, is when their dog Fiona arrived for some photos with her mom and dad humans. I love it when couples include their dogs in their wedding day festivities!
After all of the wedding party, family, and couple's photos were done we headed over to the Durham Arts Council for the ceremony. They had their ceremony indoors in the pavilion area which is a large bright open space with stairs leading up to a balcony and a second level gallery. The reception, was held immediately following the ceremony in the adjacent Allentown Gallery. A fabulous meal was served to all of the guests, the toasts were made, and then Rebecca and Steve cut their wedding cake, which his sister made. Cake, along with chocolate cannoli were served. The cannoli was fabulous! After dinner and dessert everyone headed back out into the pavilion where the first dances were. The the dance floor was opened and a Photo Booth was set up in the balcony area. It was fun seeing all of the beautiful art they had on display throughout the galleries. It's such an interesting and fabulous place for a wedding.
Steve and Rebecca's wedding is a day to remember. We enjoyed every minute of it and being a part of it too!

A special mention and thanks to this wonderful lady below on the left, Kim Hawks (that's me on the right). Kim is Rebecca's aunt and Terry and I met her through the world of music, photography, and gardening. She was such a great help, in that she knew everyone when we were photographing the families and wedding party. And she also took some beautiful photos of the women getting ready beforehand!. Kim also referred this sweet & very special couple to us. Forever grateful!
Thank you Terry for the photograph!
