Phillip and Sydney had such a gorgeous wintertime wedding, just missing a big snowstorm by one day! With Sydney having a true love of Christmas their theme was definitely influenced by it! And with their wedding being on December 8th, the church and country club were both decorated beautifully with Christmas decor. They chose to get married at her family's church, Fair Grove United Methodist, in Thomasville. They celebrated with their family and friends afterwards at Commons on the Green at the Lexington Golf Club.
Sydney & I used to work together at her uncle's studio, School Bell Studio, whom I still do contract assignments for. I've known her since she was in high school when she worked summers with us and again later when she was a student at UNCG. I mentored her in high school, as she had an interest in photography. However her interests shifted to wedding & event planning once she was in college and then planning her own wedding, which much of it she did herself with some guidance from Left Lane Productions. Everything looked so festive and I loved all of the details (and photographing them!). I especially liked their "guest book" - gold Christmas ornaments for everyone to sign and write sentiments on. These were all to hang on their Christmas tree, when they returned from their honeymoon. Great idea!
For Phillip and Sydney's wedding, I was actually one of several photographers covering their big day. I teamed up with her uncle Mark who was the main photographer, Brad as the second photographer, me as the third, and Vernell shooting video footage & assisting all of us. This was a well-documented wedding! It was so much fun seeing them all again and working together at a wedding. Typically when we work together, we're focusing on academic and yearbook photography and its seasonal work, so I only see them off and on & only a few months out of each year. At this wedding I helped cover the ceremony and afterwards while Mark, Brad, & Vernell were at the church taking family and wedding party photos, I headed over to the country club to get the detail shots along with the cocktail hour, which included some very tasty hors d'oeuvres.
When the bridal party arrived at the country club, the newlyweds were announced as Mr. & Mrs. and went right into their first dance. Then Sydney danced with her father, and Phillip with his mother. After the dances and the blessing, dinner was served. Since I was also an invited guest it sure was nice to sit down with Brad, Vernell, Mark, & Celeste (Mark's wife) and really enjoy the fabulous food. Their caterers outdid themselves! And then there were the cupcakes made by Easy Peasy, one of my personal favorite Greensboro bakeries. I admit I was a little bit excited when Sydney told me who she was working with!
After dinner Phillip and Sydney played the "shoe game" which is always hilarious! These two really do know each other, however there were a few questions they both got stumped on. It was great entertainment for the guests either way! Afterwards, the toasts were made by Sydney's dad and Phillip's mother. Then the matron of honor, Sydney's sister, toasted the couple and then the best man, Phillip's twin bother. Because a snowstorm was coming, Phillip & Sydney ended up cutting the cake earlier than planned, as many headed out early with a big snowstorm in the forecast. Several stayed longer and enjoyed time out on the dance floor, including Brad & Vernell. The snow started later that night after I got home. We ended up with 14" of snow at my house by the end of the day on Sunday, which is unheard of in the NC Piedmont! Luckily Phillip & Sydney were able to get to Florida and catch their cruise ship in time to enjoy their honeymoon in the Caribbean.
Since I just helped with the ceremony, detail shots at the reception, and the reception itself, I'm only sharing the photos in which I documented. Either way, I so enjoyed being a part of this special couple's big day. What fun!
