This time last year, Scott and Lisa were planning their destination wedding at Wintergreen Resort in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. Scott and Lisa live in Florida, however Scott is originally from this area of Virginia and has spent a lot of time over the years at Wintergreen. I too, spent a a lot of time at Wintergreen during my college years hitting the ski slopes. And over the years, I've photographed several weddings at Wintergreen as I once lived about 30 minutes from there. It sure was special to return for for Scott and Lisa's wedding!
Wintergreen was the perfect location for their summertime celebration! When we first arrived at the resort it was raining lightly and the fog was socked in, however by late afternoon the sun came out just in time for their outdoor mountaintop ceremony. It turned out to be a gorgeous cool day in the 70's! Lisa got ready with her family at the condo where they were staying and I joined them for some pre-ceremony photos. My second photographer, Jenny, headed over to Scott's family Wintergreen home to take a few candid photos of the guys together.
The 5pm ceremony was held at the Blue Ridge Overlook which has an incredible view of the mountains. Lisa looked so stunning in her gorgeous lace wedding gown and Scott handsome in his seersucker suit. Scott and Lisa had chosen not to do a first look before the ceremony. Some couples are meant to wait and see each other for the first time at the ceremony on the day of their wedding. This couple was one of them! Scott's face lit up when he saw Lisa for the first time at the beginning of the ceremony and I'm certain that Lisa smiled the entire day. So incredibly sweet.
After photos with the families, the guests headed back over to the resort to enjoy cocktails on the Blue Ridge Terrace. I spent a little alone time with Scott and Lisa for photos and they were able to join their guests shortly afterwards for cocktails. The reception was held in the Skyline Pavilion which overlooks the ski slopes with views of the mountains. Scott, Lisa, and their families made a grand entrance and the two of them did their first dance. Lisa also danced with her brother, who gave her away too. Scott danced with his mother and then with Lisa's mother. Then his Dad also danced with Lisa. And the sweetest dance of them all, Lisa and her dear mother.
.A fabulous buffet dinner was served and afterwards the dance floor opened up to everyone. Scott, Lisa, and their guests really knew how to have a great time. Their DJ was fabulous with keeping things running smoothly throughout the evening and many out on the dance floor with a fantastic playlist (I even heard a Donna the Buffalo song, my personal favorite band!). The toasts were made and Scott and Lisa then cut their cake. They had several different flavors of cupcakes as well to serve to their guests - yum!
Scott and Lisa were such a gracious couple. Jenny and I felt honored to have documented such wonderful memories for them. I sure do love what I do and the couples I have had the opportunity to work with. So very grateful!
