In less than two weeks, Terry and I will be heading to the John C Campbell Folk School for a weeklong journey of fun, learning, teaching, meeting new people, being creative, enjoying the great outdoors in the mountains, live music, and some dancing too - not to mention fabulous meals served family style! It's located in the mountains in the far southwestern corner of North Carolina in the small town of Brasstown, which is close to Murphy. The folk school is like no other place I've ever been to. It's very much like adult camp and we absolutely LOVE it there!
Terry will be taking a beginning bluegrass banjo class, while I'll be teaching a photography class. I believe this is the sixth class I've taught there over the past 8 years and my second time teaching Wanderlust: The Art of Travel Photography. Evidentially I have a full class of seven, with a waiting list, so sadly there are no spaces left in my class (if you were hoping to get in). I can't wait to meet all of my students on the 17th!
Its a real treat to be a part of this special place. If you ever find yourself near the folk school, please do yourself a favor and make an effort to visit this beautiful place. Or better yet take a class there! They offer blacksmithing, fiber arts, clay, woodturning, music, painting, cooking classes, and more. Below are a handful of photos I've taken over the years there at the folk school (click on each photo for full frame). The last photo is of our class group photo in 2017 (with me on the far left), which is the last time I taught there and the same class I'm teaching again. We sure had a great week - such fond memories!
Sadly, I missed out teaching there in 2018. I sure hope I get a spot to come back in 2020 and if I miss out then, then I'll definitely make it in 2021! For those who are interested, I also teach local photography classes (in the greater NC Triad). Typically in the spring or early summer and usually at the Paul J Ciener Botanical Garden. I'm also available for one on one instruction locally any time of year (depending on my schedule). Please check back in with me after the New Year to see what we might be offering.
Hope you enjoy the photos!
