My last photography workshop of the year was held at Paul J Ciener Botanical Garden in Kernersville, NC earlier this month. My five students and I met two evenings for a "Macro Photography" workshop. It was great fun to have return students Della, Ed, and Marielle in this class. The three of them took my beginning photography workshop last summer. Also joining the class were husband & wife, Paul and Wanda. Wanda has taken a one on one photography workshop with me and ended up helping me photograph a wedding earlier this summer near Richmond, VA. Looking forward to having her on board for my fall 2021 weddings too as an assistant/second photographer.
Although all five of my students were (are!) more advanced as photographers, they all learned so much more and it was fun to see them discover a whole new world of photography. Several of my students had actual macro lenses, some tried close-up filters, and/or extension tubes. Everyone learned the difference between close-up photography and actual macro photography. There is so much more to macro photography, but I won't spoil it here. You will have to take my class, which I hope to teach again next spring or summer!
The first evening, after class discussion we headed out into the garden for our first assignment. And then several went home and continued working on their assignments. Ed, for example, is an electrical engineer by trade and I just love that he brought some of what he does for a living, into the picture. It was fun trying to guess what everyone's photos were.
The second evening, we spent most of our time outside in the garden. However before heading outside we started off with a class discussion and we looked at everyone's work together on the big screen. I'm sharing some of my favorites here. Each student has a photo credit on their image(s) - please do not copy or share without permission.
What a fun time we had and what amazing photographs each of my students created. All of them were asking me when I was going to teach another workshop, so stay tuned for that! The wonderful folks at Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden have already asked about me teaching workshops there next year. I will also be teaching at Highland Arts Academy in Virginia next May & then at the John C. Campbell Folk School next July, located in Western North Carolina. More info on upcoming workshops can be found HERE.
Lastly, please scroll down to very bottom of post to see our class picture. Missing from photo is Paul, as he could not make it to our second class, due to a work conflict. However, Wanda passed on to all of us that he enjoyed the workshop and meeting us all!
