Just shy of two weeks ago, I taught another super fun photography class at Paul J Ciener Botanical Garden. Since most everyone has a Smartphone these days & this class is always popular, I taught a "Smartphone Photography" workshop. We met the evening of August 25th and again, so very grateful for beautiful weather. That way we could spend time outside in the garden taking photographs. I had a full class with 10 students and an 11th sign up the evening of the class. 10 is typically my limit, as I prefer to teach a smaller group and then there's the pandemic so keeping a lower limit of people is best, as we all know. We all practiced social distancing and wore face masks, with hand sanitizer readily available.
Some of the things we talked about were the camera features you already have on your phone and how to best use them. We also talked about a few camera and editing apps, which can help enhance your photographs. I even told them a selfie-stick isn't just for selfies! I like to use mine to get my phone down into the flower beds, so I don't trample the plants. Almost like a mini-tripod or monopod. Works great for that! The assignment I gave to them was to try different perspectives, look for leading lines, shapes, color, contrast, and more. One of my students, Jessica, came up with a great idea for one of her photos. She used her sunglasses to shoot through to enhance the sunset!
And because this class was so popular, I will be teaching it again on Saturday morning, October 3rd from 9am-12pm. As of today (September 8th) I already have 5 signed up so far with a 10-student limit. A few on my waiting list have not signed up yet! So if you think you'd like to take this class, don't wait too long to sign up. More info can be found on my photography workshops page, on Paul J Ciener's Event Page and/or you may sign up online securely HERE.
As for future digital DSLR classes, I'll likely be teaching the beginning class again, possible an intermediate class (such as Macro), and another Smartphone class spring 2021 at the garden. If anyone out there would like to set-up one on one instruction, I offer that too!
Enjoy these incredible photos. I was hoping ALL of my students would submit their work, but people get busy, forget, etc. etc.! However for the few who did share, thanks so much Jessica, Toni, Shannon, Devlin, Carolyn, and Wes! If you take any of my classes, know that I love sharing your work :) You've been warned!
